WIP Wednesday: Socks!

Happy 2012!!! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are ready and raring to go with 2012.

My first project for 2012  is part of a sock knit-along. I've tried making socks before, but I wasn't keen on the yarn I was using, so they never got past the first heel. This time I'm using merino wool. Nimu Mickleden to be exact

I've chosed a toe-up pattern from Sock Yarn: One Skein Wonders the pattern is Vidia Socks

WIP Wednesday

I'll try get a better picture of the colours in natural light, this one was taken last night.

I had quite a bit of trouble getting started with these, but I was determined to try toe-up and so we got going eventually. I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of DPN's, I'd rather be doing these magic loop style, but I couldn't find any 2.75mm needles for my Knit Pros. Am I right in thinking they only start at 3mm? If so what brand of circular do people recommend that comes in a 2.75mm?

  3. I love socks done toe up - sorry I can't help with the circ problem - I am a DPN girl... the blue looks lovely even though I know what you mean by the lighting.

  4. You can get Knit Picks in smaller sizes, just not the interchangeable. Love that deep color.

  5. I just bought some fixed Knit Pro circulars in 2.75mm with 100cm cables. Should be fine for magic loop. But you can't get tips smaller than 3mm.

  7. Getting started on toe-up socks can be very fiddly, but it looks like you've done well! I think 2012 is going to be a good sock year for you!

  8. I've always used knitpicks circulars for my socks. Never had any problems with them! I think a lot of people like the addi turbos, too.

  9. I'm rather fond of knitter's pride and they are rather reasonable. If you don't like knitting on dpns, addi-tubo makes very short circulars for sock knitting. I really like those too. Both come in smaller needle sizes!

  10. I'm not a sock knitter but I'm wondering if trying toe up would make it better. Love the color.

  13. I haven't ever knitted socks before either - one of those skills 'I will get round to!' The blue yarn looks like it will knit up brilliantly. Is so difficult to start some projects!
